According to the Mercer County Improvement Authority, Mercer County residents can recycle plastics labeled #5 in addition to #1 and #2 in 2025.
#5 plastics are made of polypropylene, which is commonly used for food containers such as yogurt cups, condiment containers, bottle caps, to-go containers, and amber-colored medicine bottles. However, in order to be recycled, all items must be empty, clean, and dry.
#5 plastics can be identified by a triangle of arrows containing the number 5, with "PP" (polypropylene's abbreviated form) written directly underneath the symbol. Symbols are located on the plastic item itself.
